About M.A (Journalism) Department

A brief history:

The Post graduate department of communication & journalism started its programme of M.A in communication & journalism of the university of  Mysore in the academic year 2013-14, at the pg block. The faculty, who started the course was Dr. Sukanya , paid off when six student enrolled in the first year and nine student  in the second year.

The Course

The M.A Course is of 76 credits, spread over  4 semester (19+19+19+22). The syllabus includes Soft Cores  which complement three Hard Core subjects for each semester. At the second and semesters, it provides a project work of specialization at a minor level in various areas related to communication & journalism. The 8 credit Open Elective taught by faculty members of other disciplines like English, HRD help to develop job readiness  and other attributes for the post graduates passing out of the department of communication & journalism offers  Open Elective  like freelance Journalism and Public Relation to students of other disciplines like Physical  Sciences, commerce , English and Social  Work to hone their skills in communication. The department  is offering an Open Electivepaper in photography and Editing to under graduate students.

The syllabus

The syllabus was prepared and revised within the ambit of regulations of the University Of Mysore by Dr. Sukanya, chairmen of the board of studies of the   department of communication & journalism in association with the board members from  Mysore University.


To maintain the sanctity of evaluation In keeping with the high standards, only faculty members from  other  P G Department  of established Universities  of Mysore and allied autonomous PG centers are involved.

Future Plan of Action:

The future plan of the department  activity will veer on the need to instill among the student production of TV and Radio programmes . Emphasis is on the  personal work under the supervision and continuous evaluation of the faculty members. The proactive participation of student in more seminar and presentation sessions will take the priority . The department is going to organize a National Seminar  in the month of March , 2015.
