About Malayalam Department

A brief History

The department of Malayalam commenced in the year 1960 with the objective of providing an opportunity to learn Malayalam as a Second language for the Keralites, who seek admission for Degree Course in large number. So far, eight professors have rendered their service to the Malayalam department. It is a single man department.

Prof. Babu: Among the professors of Malayalam, Prof. Babu has established himself exceptionally as a versatile person and endeared himself as a persona grata to one and all.

Achievements :

The department has an exclusive Malayalam library with many fiction, non-fiction and linguistics books. The Department conducts different cultural and literary activities under Akshara Book Club. It encourages the reading habit of the students. Under the book club the department releases regularly a literary magazine called “Kanal” to showcase the literary creativity of students.  Apart from the cultural and literary activities, the Department has involved in  many other innovative activities in the college such as Paper recycling, Butterfly garden, Vermin-compost and Social service like distribution of necessary things & food to the destitute by Mother Theresa’s Missionaries of Charity.  ‘Freshers’ Day’, Onam celebration, Reunion of alumni and Farewell to the outgoing students are the highlights of Malayalam department.
