A three-day’s Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp(from 26th to 28th November 2019)  and the inauguration of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell(ED Cell) of St.Philomena’s College(Autonomous), Mysuru was held on 26th November 2019 in the P.U.college conference hall with nearly 90 students attending the camp. This program which was sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India(EDII), Ahmedabad under the DST, NIMAT Program aimed to create awareness among students of science stream about various facets of entrepreneurship as an alternative career option as also to highlight the merits of pursuing such an option.

The camp was inaugurated by Mr.N.G.Lakshman Rao, Director, RUDSET Institute, Mysore  and presided by Rev.Dr.Bernard Prakash Barnis, Rector/Manager of the college.

During the inaugural, Dr.Ravi J.D.Saldanha, Coordinator, ED cell of the college, gave a brief introduction of the programme.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Mr.N.G.Lakshman Rao lauded the initiative of the ED cell of the college and said that in order to become a successful entrepreneur, one should not narrow down his/her own perspectives, instead one should have a broader vision to look into other career options. At the same time one should not totally rely upon Government jobs but also to consider entrepreneurship as an alternate career option. He hoped that the ED cell of the college will act as a good catalyst for young entrepreneurs.

Dr.T.Ruth Shantha Kumari, Principal of the college, in her address said that in today’s education system, there is an absolute mismatch between the degrees obtained and jobs taken up. This camp would help the students who are the future entrepreneurs in a way to be employers than employees. She further said that one should cultivate certain characteristics such as desire, determination and discipline to come up as a successful entrepreneur.

Rev.Dr.Bernard Praksh Barnis, Rector/Manager of the college, in his presidential address congratulated the initiative taken up by the ED Cell and said that self employment is always better than working under a system. He was of the opinion that the ideals of spirit of belongingness and dedication to work will play a vital role in becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Vice-Rector of the college, Rev.Fr.Maria Xavier Sunil; Campus Administrator Rev.Fr.Thomas Roxon Baros; Vice-Principal Prof. Vidyadhar.Sanjay Nair; P.U College Principal Mr.Sunil D’Souza and ED Cell coordinator Dr.Ravi J.D.Saldanha were present.

Various sessions were conducted during these days by experts such as Mr.Ebnezar James, Asst.Professor, St.Philomena’s College, Mysuru;  Dr.Nanjappa, Retired Scientist, DFRL,Mysuru; Dr.Niranjan Babu, Assistant Professor, Maharani’s Science College for Women, Mysuru and Mrs.Rachana Mahesh, woman entrepreneur and a State Government awardee on different topics.

On the second day, an industrial visit was arranged to Milk Diary, Siddartha Layout, Mysuru to provide knowledge about the functioning of various units of the industry.

Certificates were distributed to the participants during valedictory function held on 28th November, 2019 at 4.00pm by Rev.Fr.Thomas Roxon Baros, the Campus Administrator of the college.

The EAC program was organized under the banner of the ED Cell of the college and coordinated by Dr.Ravi J.D.Saldanha together with the ED cell members.
